In heavily pressured hunting areas you must have a realistic decoy spread that separates you from the pack. That is why Tanglefree developed Pintail Butt-Up Drake decoys and tested the decoy on the Sacramento Valley’s constantly pressured pintail population.  With a shallow and self-righting keel, this decoy is functional in genuine shallow water feeding environments. While very effective on a jerk string, the weighted keel guarantees individual long distant decoy throws with perfect upright landings in any condition. The size, posture, balance, texturing, colors and shading of this butt-up decoy will increase your chances over water.

I love having these on my jerk string. This is one of the few decoys I use to make me look different than all the other competition when I’m hunting on public land. The color pops right off the water and motion can be seen for long distances!!!

For less than $20 for a set of 2, this is the best dollar-for-dollar decoy on the market. I never hunt without them.

These pintail butts look great out of the box. The paint job is excellent, and they seem to be durable. They look great on the water…until the wind blows. It doesn’t have to blow hard either. Even the slightest breeze causes them to lay over on their sides. Tanglefree could fix this with a little more weight in the keel. I fixed it by cutting off the long tails. The long tails look great while they are upright. But I really don’t believe the birds circling at 25 mph can see the long tails against the dark backdrop of the water. Cut the tails short, patch the resulting hole with bath tub sealant and they’ll work just fine. I suppose Tanglefree could also fix them by not making the tails so long. I’d give them a five if they didn’t lay down in a breeze.
